The Challenge
We all understand the environmental impact of plastic and the long time it takes to decompose. But how can we make the urgency to reduce plastic usage truly resonate with people?
The Insight
The idea of this campaign is to compare the lifespan of plastic and human lifespan. Plastic does live so much longer than we people do.
Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. It takes about 500 years or longer for the average sized plastic water bottle to decompose.
Americans use over 390 million straws every day, and straws take from 200-500 years to decompose
Americans use an average of 365 plastic bags per person per year. Plastic bags take up to 1,000 years to degrade in a landfill, and unfortunately, the bags don't break down completely.
